🛒 Ingredients
- 2 bottles (750ml each) red wine
- 2 oranges (or 4 clementines)
- 8 whole cloves
- 200g honey and 125g granulated sugar (or use a preferred sweetener to taste, like maple syrup)
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 2 star anise pods
- 1 liter water (this prevents the wine from being too "sticky" and saves some alcohol)
- Optional additions: a splash of spiced rum or brandy, apple slices, or vanilla pods
Directions
🔪 Instructions
- Prepare the citrus: Use a peeler to remove the skin from one orange (or two clementines), reserving the peels. Stud the whole, remaining orange (or clementines) with the cloves. Juice the remaining citrus.
- Create the base: In the Ninja Possible Pot, combine the citrus peels, juice, the clove-studded fruit, honey, sugar, cinnamon sticks, and star anise.
- Set the Ninja Woodfire Grill to Grill setting and Low. Add Citrus Wood Pellets if desired. Press Smoke Technology and Start.
- Heat gently: Place the pot over a low to medium heat on the Ninja Woodfire Grill grill setting. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring until all the sugar has dissolved.
- Add wine and simmer: Pour in the red wine and water. Continue to cook for approximately 20 minutes. Crucially, do not let the mixture come to a boil, which causes the alcohol to evaporate. A gentle simmer at around 55°C (131°F) is ideal.
- Serve: Once warm and infused, strain the mulled wine to remove the spices and fruit chunks if desired. Serve immediately in heatproof glasses or mugs, garnished with a fresh orange slice or a cinnamon stick. The drink can be kept warm on a "keep warm" setting if available.
